Project 59- Valedictory Address
On this edition of Rewind an hour from the series Project 59. This one is called Valedictory 59 and it's a sound portrait of the graduating class of 1959. Young people talk about what type of adults they intend to be with a mixture of conformism to their parent's ideals and a youthful rejection of a world that "doesn't believe in anything". There's more than a hint of the counter-culture that would blossom 7 years later. Then as now - the world of the young adult is centered around music and mating - although most of these graduates make no mystery that they want - a car, a fridge and a TV.
And here's a nice surprise- the guide to this hour is a young Leonard Cohen.
