The State of the Catholic Church Circa 1984- Part Three
The third of a four part series about the Roman Catholic Church. It first aired on Ideas in the spring of 1984. It was a time when the church was experiencing great change. The ideas that came out of the Second Vatican Council- of liberalization and accessibility- felt like a breath of fresh air to many. And when Karol Woytala became Pope John Paul the Second in 1978, his personal charisma won many over. It seemed like there would be all sorts of changes that would continue in the coming years. Of course this was before Catholic priests around the world were charged and often convicted of crimes against children including assault and rape.
From May 1984, the third part of an Ideas series about the Catholic Church. Today, the church in Quebec. The episode is called From Prince to Servant.
