Can Canada Compete?

Today on Rewind an episode of the Centrepoint feature of the program Sunday Morning. This one first aired in October 1990 and it looks at the question of whether Canada could compete in the years to come. Before we get to it, a little background. In the early 1980s and again in the early 1990s, there were economic recessions in Canada. There was a large federal deficit and high unemployment. Just two years previously, the governments of Canada and the United States had signed a free trade agreement. Opinions were divided on whether or not the deal would be good for Canada.
