Project 59- Gaza
Today, a program from Project 59. Although the program was called Project 59, it actually first aired in November 1958. This one looked at the recently established United Nations Emergency Forces or UNEF. UNEF was first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1956 as a way to resolve the Suez Crisis. It was developed largely by the work of the United Nations Secretary Dag Hammarskjöld and the Canadian minister of External Affairs- Lester Pearson. When this hour first aired- UNEF had only been in existence for two years, and were based in Gaza. This hour looks at the role that Canada played in UNEF.
