Entering its 53rd season, THE NATURE OF THINGS WITH DAVID SUZUKI is CBC Television's longest- running multi-award-winning series, bringing Canadians exciting and thought-provoking television.
CChampioned by David Suzuki, THE NATURE OF THINGS delivers strong content, innovative style, plus a global perspective and reach. Documentaries presenting issues of science, wildlife, medicine, technology and the environment illuminate the way for a greater understanding of the increasingly complex world in which we live.
Wild Canada
This spectacular four-part series on the wildlife and the wild lands of Canada reveals a Canada that few have seen before. Canada's natural history is one of the last unexplored territories on the global television landscape. Underlying the series will be an epic narrative through time and across the vast scale of the Canadian landscape, while providing exciting new stories of the plant and wildlife of Canada in ways that have never been seen before. New research reveals that many of Canada's fabulous natural landscapes are the direct result of ancient human activity. Each episode tells two parallel stories: the natural history of Canada, and how past humans shaped Canada's landscape and the wildlife spectacles we see today.
A Dog's Life
Pet owners observe how their dogs act and react, and think they understand canine behaviour. But are they right? New investigations reveal that we may not know our "best friends" as well as we think we do.
Allergy Fix
Scientists are attacking allergies in new and inventive ways, driven by the alarming increase in the number of people, particularly children, who suffer -- and can die -- from them. Nearly half of all kids are now allergic to food, animals, or plants. In the search for a fix, scientists are completely up-ending the conventional wisdom about what causes allergies and how to deal with them. We might be better off, from an allergy point of view, living a 19th century life on farms, rather than a 21st century life in cities.
Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem travels to rivers and lakes that are now battlefields, where a major offensive is taking place to prevent the spread of a mighty foe, the Asian carp. After destroying freshwater ecosystems from Louisiana to Ohio, this invasive species is now at the doorstep of the Great Lakes. The stakes are high -- if the carp get through, scientists say the destruction of the native fish species and the unique ecosystem in the Great Lakes is inevitable.
For the Love of Elephants II
For the Love of Elephants II reconnects Canadians with the beloved Sities, the orphaned baby African elephant rescued in Kenya three years ago and brought to the world-famous David Sheldrick Trust to be nurtured at the Nairobi Nursery. Our film picks up from For the Love of Elephants as young Sities, now three years old, prepares to say goodbye to the nursery and move southward for the next phase of her reintegration into the wild. How will she survive this crucial next stage?
Survival of the Fabulous
How could homosexuality, a trait which essentially prevents reproduction, have survived the evolutionary process? Ever since openly gay filmmaker Bryce Sage came out of the closet, he has struggled to answer this fundamental question. In Survival of the Fabulous, he confronts his own homosexuality and family history, exploring the nature versus nurture side of the issue.
Untangling Alzheimer's
Untangling Alzheimer's is a dramatic and inspiring medical investigation driven by David Suzuki's journey to understand the science of Alzheimer's and the surprising new theories into its possible cause.
