Snowboarding became an official sport in 1985. This sport was inspired by skateboarding, sledding, surfing, and skiing. This skill includes a combination of body balance, timing, and coordination. The 2012 team has the core of its veterans from the 2011 as it begins preparations for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
