MARK KELLEY JOINS the fifth estate, CBC NEWS'S AWARD-WINNING INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISM PROGRAM

CBC News announced today that Mark Kelley will join the fifth estate this September, complementing the award-winning team of Linden MacIntyre, Gillian Findlay and Bob McKeown. With this news, Kelley returns to his investigative roots at CBC.

"Joining a program with the history, talent and depth of the fifth is one of the highest honours--and greatest challenges of my career," said Kelley, who cut his teeth on investigative journalism as co-host of the Gemini Award-winning program CBC News: Disclosure. "This is a show that pushes buttons and pushes boundaries. I look forward to working with, and learning from, some of the best journalists in this country."

A multi-award-winning journalist, Kelley has won five Gemini Awards for his work with CBC News: Disclosure and The National, and most recently for his hosting of Connect with Mark Kelley.

"Mark is a great addition to the fifth estate," said Jennifer McGuire, editor in chief, CBC News. "He has an uncanny ability to connect with Canadians. And with his formidable journalistic skills, makes a powerful addition to this stellar team."

In addition to his duties with Canada's premier investigative series, Kelley will continue to contribute to The National.

Last season, the fifth estate won its largest audience in more than a decade (1.3 million viewers) for its minute-by-minute reconstruction of the Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster, and more than three-quarters of a million viewers (775,000) watched the story of a real-life kidnapping and helped piece together the clues in the innovative and interactive season finale. the fifth estate's new season begins Friday, Sept. 14, at 9 p.m. (9:30 NT), on CBC-TV.
