Smithers search and rescue volunteer rewarded for 30 years of service

Walter Bucher receives a Public Safety Lifeline Volunteers award from Attorney General, Shirley Bond.

When someone gets into trouble on the lakes and rivers near Smithers, there's a good chance Walter Bucher will be called out to rescue them. Walter has been a search and rescue volunteer for the last 30 years. He's also a volunteer firefighter and the town's deputy emergency co-ordinator. He was one of 6 people who received a special Public Safety Lifeline Volunteers award from Attorney General, Shirley Bond on Wednesday. On Thursday, he talked with Rebecca.
