How much goat milk does an orphaned moose need?

Helen Jameson has dedicated her life to rehabilitating orphaned wildlife in the West Kootenay. It's not a cheap process- she buys a lot of grain, and a lot of goat milk. So Greg Wheaton, the assistant manger at the Save-On Foods in Nelson, decided to help. Rebecca spoke with both of them.

Local woman spends 15 years rescuing books from landfill

Carol Jackson calls her garage in West Kelowna a hidden gem. It's packed tight with books,  from the floor to the ceiling. There are hundreds, neatly arranged in crates, labeled and stacked. The best part? Most of the books are free. Rebecca recently dropped by the garage. You can find Carol's garage at 2120 Tomat Avenue in West Kelowna.

Members of the Kamloops Naturalist Club are gearing up for the season, scouting out creekbanks for the best spots to install video cameras. Tracking down family of Empress of Ireland passengers

It's been nearly a century since the Empress of Ireland sank in the St. Lawrence River, near Rimouski. The ship was carrying nearly 1500 passengers. More than a thousand of them died. Now, a Quebec museum dedicated to archiving that tragedy is touring the country, looking for ancestors of the ship's passengers. Rebecca spoke with Pascale Saint Armand. She's with the museum in Pointe-Au-Pere and has been meeting with people at the Kelowna Museum this week.

Questions around Lemon Creek cleanup

It has been two weeks since a tanker truck owned by Executive Flight Center crashed in the Slocan Valley. It dumped 33 thousand litres of jet juel into Lemon Creek. The company is now scaling back its cleanup efforts, leaving some members of the surrounding community saying they are being left behind. Shael Gelfand is the Vice-President of Peak Communicators. The company has been hired by Executive Flight Center to handle public relations. Gelfand responded to concerns made by the former Lemon Creek Response Team community liaison, John Wittmayer.

Robyn's Recipe for freezable peach pie filling:
Peel and slice 5 cups of peaches
Toss in lemon juice
Mix together 1/2 cup of sugar, 3 tbsp flour, 1/4 tsp cinnamon, a pinch of salt
Add mixture to peaches
Freeze
Cook, topped with crumble, at your leisure

Crumble Recipe for a 9 inch pastry shell
1/2 cup flour, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 butter

Fill shell with pie filling, top with crumble and bake at 400 for 45 minutes.
Voila!
