City Park Concept Plan

The City of Kelowna has released its Concept Plan for City Park. It includes a diving tower, new sports courts, and a lawn for picnics. Plus: a scenic driving route, and separate cycling and walking paths. Now, the city wants to know what you think. You can give feedback online.

A cat's adventure in Kelowna

The cat had fallen 15 or 20 feet at this point, and landed on this branch

Rebecca got a text from a friend this morning. It said, 'There's a cat stuck 40 feet up a tree in the Mission.' Well, we couldn't resist. Rebecca headed out and found the cat at Lakeside Orchards in Kelowna's Mission neighbourhood and met owner Hans Jensen standing at the base of a tree.

Changing the law to allow deer hazing

The ethics of trophy hunting

BC's controlled grizzly bear hunt is now closed for the season. Radio West spoke to a Norwegian hunter who shot a grizzly this season. Some people think the grizzly hunt should be shut down, including Dr. Paul Paquet. He's currently a Senior Scientist with the Raincoast Conservation Foundation and an adjunct professor at the University of Victoria. He spoke to Rebecca about the numbers of grizzlies in the province and about the ethics of trophy hunting.

Grizzly Bear hunting season closes

Norwegian Espen Lynne shot his first grizzly bear last week in BC

The controlled grizzly bear hunt in BC wraps up this weekend. According to the ministry of environment, on average, hunters kill about 300 grizzlies each year. More than a third of those bears are shot by people who don't live in BC. Espen Lynne is Norwegian and hunts in Canada frequently. Last week, he shot his first grizzly bear on a guided hunting trip in the Flathead River Valley, in southeastern BC. Here's his conversation with Rebecca:

Nelson filmmaker wins $30,000 contract
