Residential school day scholars launch class-action lawsuit

From the late 19th century onwards, aboriginal children in Canada were forced to attend government residential schools where they suffered emotional, physical and sometimes sexual abuse at the hands of church teachers (Library and Archives Canada/PA-042133)

Two BC First Nations are suing the federal government. They want compensation for people who attended residental schools as day students. The Tk'emlups Indian Band in Kamloops is one of the groups behind the class-action lawsuit. Rebecca spoke with Chief Shane Gottfreidson to find out more.
