Tsilhqot'in lawyer is happy with some of court's decision

The B.C. Court of Appeal found that the Crown had infringed on the rights of the Tsilhqot'in Nation with its management of forestry in the claim area, which lies to the south and west of Williams Lake and Alexis Creek. (CBC)

The B.C. Court of Appeal affirmed hunting rights for the Tsilhqot'in National, but not aboriginal title. Radio West guest host Alya Ramadan spoke with Tsilhqot'in lawyer Jay Nelson.

Weekend wrap for June 22-24

Check out the 3rd Annual Okanagan Rhythm Fest at the Kelowna Rotary Centre for the Arts.

Take in a concert at Tin Horn Creek Winery near Oliver with The Matinee on Saturday at 3 p.m. All proceeds go to the rebuilding efforts for South Okanagan Secondary School.

Head to Turtle Valley for the 4th Annual Donkey Days Celebration, a fundraiser for the Turtle Valley Donkey Refuge.

Enjoy some chilli and some pottery at the 5th Annual Chilli Bowl Bash in Fort St. John. Proceeds go to the North Peace Potters' Guild.

A tragic story is unfolding in the North Pacific. Tens of thousands of baby birds -- albatrosses -- are dying on Midway Island. The problem? They're eating plastic. Their bellies are full of bottle caps. A Kelowna photographer is collaborating on a documentary about the birds. Rebecca spoke with Jan Vozenilek to learn more.

Penticton police warn of sex offender

Donald Bakker
The first person convicted under Canada's sex-tourism laws has moved to Penticton. In 2005, Donald Bakker was convicted of sexually assaulting three sex trade workers in BC, and of committing sex crimes against young girls in Cambodia. On Friday, he moved to the Okanagan after his release from jail. Police have issued a special warning to the area's residents.

Prince George Legion saved

Prince George's cash-strapped Royal Canadian Legion has been saved. Three investors bought the Legion's downtown building, and they're letting their new tenants stay for free for the next year. John Scott is the Prince George Legion's past president. Vern Norbraten is one of the three investors who bought the building.

Naden, the rescued seal pup

This morning's Pacific Airlines flight out of Haida Gwaii had a special passenger on board: a seal pup destined for the Vancouver Aquarium. The abandoned pup was discovered by Ryan Ashton, the head guide at the Queen Charlotte Lodge. Rebecca spoke to Ryan about the rescue.
