The band stops by Studio Q for a special acoustic performance and chat about their enduring partnership. Join host Jian Ghomeshi … today at 10:00 a.m. (10:30 NT) on CBC Radio One.

Host Rod Love has a line he likes to use: "If you can find it in the Yellow Pages, government shouldn't be doing it." Love thinks the private sector should take over more public services. Private companies will be more cost-efficient even while generating a profit. But co-host, Karin Klassen, isn't quite ready to concede that the private sector always does it better. She thinks privatization has its pitfalls. They'll debate the hits and misses of privatization on this week's TYPE A.

SATURDAY

- RADIO ONE -

1.under the influence:

This week on Under the Influence, host Terry O'Reilly looks at the use of hit songs in advertising. It started in a big way back in 1983, with the movie The Big Chill. A huge part of the movie's success was based on its soundtrack, which featured over 20 of the biggest hits from the 60s and 70s. When Madison Avenue saw just how much hit songs resonated with baby boomers, it opened the floodgates. To this day, hit songs have been one of the advertising industry's most influential tools - but it wasn't without some interesting bumps along the way. Don't miss Under the Influence, Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 12 noon in Newfoundland.

2.Canada reads highlights special:

PRON: Aguirre = ah-GEER-rhay [it's Spanish, if that helps]

Canada Reads 2012 was filled with crying and controversy, during what many are calling "the best Canada Reads yet." Actor Alan Thicke, supermodel Stacey McKenzie, Dragons' Den star Arlene Dickinson, musician Shad, and litigator Anne-France Goldwater took to the table to determine which non-fiction book all of Canada should read during the Canada Reads: True Stories edition. After four days of debate that was intelligent, intense and always fascinating, this year's panel crowned Shad's pick "Something Fierce" by Carmen Aguirre the Canada Reads winner. You can relive all the action during the hour-long special, Saturday at 4 p.m., 4:30 in Newfoundland on CBC Radio One.

3.CONCERTS ON DEMAND:
