Yesterday Premier Kathy Dunderdale was in St. Lawrence for a ribbon cutting… to mark the re-opening of mining for flourspar in that town. The provincial government is giving Canada Fluorspar a 17 million-dollar repayable contribution to get things going by 2013.

Rick Rennie is quite familiar with that town, he grew up there and ended up writing about it for his PH-D. His book is called “The Dirt. Industrial Disease and Conflict at St. Lawrence, Newfoundland.” I reached him in Winnipeg.
