Father Chris Ruston leaves Sheshatshiu For 30 years, Father Chris Ruston has been ministering to the people of Labrador. But that's coming to an end. In a few days, "Father Chris" as he is known will move back to the mainland and leave his many friends in Sheshatshiu behind. It was a painful decision to make, and an even more painful decision to announce. Father Chris was kind enough to share his thoughts with us today from our Goose Bay studio.

From the archives: The Red Bay Basques

This week, the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization -- UNESCO -- is meeting in Cambodia.  The Committee is reviewing more than 30 nominations for designation as a World Heritage Site, including two from Canada.  One of them is the Basque Whaling Station at Red Bay.  The nomination paper says Red Bay provides the most comprehensive and earliest land and underwater archaeological evidence of 16th century European trans-Atlantic whaling ...that would be by the Basques... for large-scale production of whale oil.
