The first North American Guzheng Competition is in Edmonton this weekend.
Today, children at Meadowlark school got to hear the guzheng, and some other traditional Chinese intruments. The performers were the Maple Silk Ensemble from Toronto.

Hundreds of Albertans gathered in front of the legislature today.
    They were protesting a 42 million dollar cut to supports for people with developmental disabilities.
    Nicola Fairbrother was one of the speakers at the demonstration.
    She's the Director of Neighbourhood Bridges, an Edmonton organization
    that provides support for people affected by the cuts.

Portia stopped by the greenhouse to get a tutorial in container gardening from our expert Rob Sproule.

This weekend, Brian Keating was in B-C for the first Creston Bird festival.
The small community is home to a wealth of birds.....and Brian was up early and and late to see as many as possible.
Brian is  also Radio active's naturalist.

Meet Little Wing, Boyle Street's newest member and temporary resident. Little Wing and her mate have been very busy for the past few weeks building a nest in one of our camera housings. It won't be long now before we have a few more members.

Alberta prison guards are on day five of their wildcat strike while the union and the government are meeting to try to get them back to work. Erez Raz is a corrections peace officer at the Edmonton Remand Centre. He tells Rod what a typical shift is like.
