Joy to the World: Euroradio Christmas Broadcast On CBC Radio 2

9:00 – 10:00: Helsinki, Finland. From Kallio Church, a concert of arias and orchestral music by Handel and Haydn with soprano Tuuli Lindberg, counter-tenor Teppo Lampela and The Sixth Floor Orchestra

10:00 – 11:00: Tallinn, Estonia. From St Nicholas Church, a program of seasonal music by a number of Estonian and other composers with the Grammy-award winning Estonian National Men’s Chorus led by Ants Soots.

11:00 – 12:00: Nuremberg, Germany. From the Germanic National Museum, Christmas concertos by the 17th century composer Johann Rosenmuller with Capella Angelica, the Lautten Compagney Berlin, and soprano Olivia Vermeulen led by Wolfgang Kortscher

12:00 – 1:00: Prague, Czech Republic. From Charles University a program of music from the Kromeriz Archive presented by the Ensemble Inégal led by Adam Viktoria.

1:00 – 2:00: Munich, Germany. From Herkules Hall a concert featuring the Christmas Oratorio of Camille Saint-Saens and two Christmas lullabies by Arvo Part. The Bavarian Radio Orchestra and Chorus is led by Tõnu Kaljuste.

2:00 – 3:00: Warsaw, Poland. From Polish Radio’s Witold Lutoslawski Concert Hall, a program of Renaissance motets for Christmas featuring the Subtilior Ensemble.

3:00 – 4:00: Stockholm, Sweden. From the Berwald Hall music for the Feast of St Lucia, influenced by folk instruments and world music. The Nacka Music School Choirs are joined by vocalist Lena Willemark and pianist Anders Widmark.

4:00 – 5:00: Dublin, Ireland. From the National Concert Hall, works by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Grieg, Warlock, Bach and others with mezzo-soprano Victoria Massey, the RTÉ Children’s Choir and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra led by Gavin Maloney.

5:00 – 6:00: Montreal, Canada. From the Church of St Andrew and St Paul the 30th annual Sing-In featuring the 60-voice choir of the Church of St Andrew and St Paul under the direction of Jordan de Souza and Wayne Riddell, organist Jonathan Oldengarm, a brass ensemble and the audience of 1,500 led by Jean Michel Malouf.

Elektra - Chez Nous

Canadians have a variety of traditions at this time of year, and the most common one - entertaining: whether its family, friends or coworkers, we invite people into our homes. For years, Elektra Women's Choir has espoused that tradition, metaphorically speaking, with their annual Chez Nous!concerts. Picture an Open House resplendent with a smorgasbord of melodies heard around the Christmas season. Musical friends are invited to join them; this year, it's the Zing! Children's Choir, guitarist and composer Edward Henderson, bassist Jodi Proznick, pianists Bramwell Tovey & Ya Wen Wang, pianist, organist and composer Stephen Smith with conductors Morna Edmundson and Lisa Reimer. Listen for World Premieres by Tim Corlis and Edward Henderson rounded out with familiar favourites.

A King's Christmas

Join Halifax's own 5 time Grammy award winner Paul Halley for “A King’s Christmas”, with the King's College Chapel Choir and the beautiful voice of soprano Suzie Leblanc. This is the second year that the The King’s College Chapel Choir has presented what the Halifax Chronicle Herald is calling “an unquestionable tradition-maker.” You'll hear Paul Halley's arrangements of carols old and new with a few sung with audience participation. It's a seasonal feast of some of the most loved carols, hymns and motets written over the past 500 years .

A Canadian Christmas Canon

Bruce Cockburn, Joni Mitchell, Ron Sexsmith, Lynn Miles, Stan Rogers, and many others have penned songs expressing their personal sense of the Christmas season. For many, these are the songs of The Canadian Christmas Canon. Edmonton singer-songwriter Bob Jahrig and sibling sisters group The Ambers perform some of their favourites for one magical night at the intimate Northern Light Folk Club in Edmonton.

Outport Christmas in Ferryland

John Curran returns to his home community of Ferryland to release his debut solo CD “Christmas - May Your Days Be Merry And Bright.” Perched on its grassy bank, the Holy Trinity Church stands in a commanding position overlooking the rugged and rocky shoreline that welcomed some of the earliest settlers to Newfoundland. The church has been a sanctuary and meeting place for this southern shore community since it was built in 1865 and provides an iconic venue within earshot of the foaming waves. As a boy, John sang here with the choir at Christmas and he returns tonight to welcome an over-capacity crowd of family, friends and fans who jam into the pews to celebrate the season with one of their favourite sons.

CBC Christmas Sing In

A kaleidescope of Christmas music for choir, brass, percussion, organ and an audience of 1500 from The Church of St Andrew and St Paul in Montreal. The 30th annual CBC Christmas Sing-In features the Choir of The Church of St. Andrew and St. Paul, organist Jonathan Oldengarm, a brass ensemble led by Jean-Michel Malouf, all under the direction of Jordan de Souza and guest conductor Wayne Riddell, the founding conductor of the Sing-In. Also featured in this all-Canadian programme is the world premiere of Peaceful, the Wondrous Night, by Toronto composer Ruth Watson Henderson, co-commissioned especially for this concert by the CBC and The Church of St Andrew and St Paul.

Handel's Messiah from Carnegie Hall

This year, CBC's annual Christmas Day broadcast of Handel's Messiah comes from the stage of Carnegie Hall in New York City. The Quebec City chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy, and the 32 voices of La Chapelle de Quebec are under the direction of conductor Bernard Labadie. They're joined by an international quartet of soloists for an unforgettable performance of this holiday favourite that's sure to be a high point of your Christmas celebrations.

Tom will perform his signature tune "The Huron Carole" along with other traditional and non-traditional holiday favorites. Singing for Supper benefits food banks and food programs across Canada.

You'll hear Kurt Browning, Katia Gordeeva, Jamie Sale and David Pelletier and others tell us what music they love to skate to. You'll also hear Andrea Menard and the Canadian Tenors in concert at the rink of the Entertainment and Sports Centre in Abbotsford BC.
