Meet Kevin Schaffter and MusAid: Helping musicians in the developing world
Meet Kevin Schaffter. He's a 21-year-old clarinetist studying at Indiana University who in his spare time runs Musaid, a non profit organization dedicated to bringing instruments and equipment to conservatories and music schools in developing countries.
Kevin Schaffter (a Canadian and a member of the National Youth Orchestra) heard our recent piece on the Afghanistan National Institute of Music (ANIM) last summer.
His organization, Musaid, had donated instruments to ANIM earlier in the year. So it was a real treat to hear music played on the very instruments he'd spent hours packing into boxes.
He sent us an e-mail to tell us all about MusAid and its connection to Afghanistan, and so we thought we'd give him a call to find out more about the organization, and about Kevin Schaffter himself:
