Karina Gauvin has a spectacularly beautiful voice. If you need instant proof, just open Karina's website. (It's something when a home page makes you stop and listen!)
Lately Karina has been busy performing as soprano soloist in a number of productions of Handel's Messiah, including some upcoming concerts with the New York Philharmonic (with Bernard Labadie conducting). But today you can hear her in the radio host role, at This Is My Music.

Jon Kimura Parker, a.k.a. "Jackie" is back as host of This Is My Music.
Since he last appeared on the show he's done all manner of things, as is frequently the case with Parker. (Hey, what else would you expect from a pianist who has jammed with Doc Severinsen, performed for Queen Elizabeth -- twice -- and played the Hollywood Bowl in a Star Trek suit!)

Which were the two most popular instruments of the 17th and 18th centuries? If you answered "lute and viola da gamba," you are correct. And although the lute seems to still have a presence in mainstream culture -- thanks in part to Sting -- the viola da gamba? Less so.

Ben is back! Tenor Ben Heppner returns to the This Is My Music studio with a show devoted to some of his favourite things. (No, I'm not suggesting he's a Sound of Music or Coltrane fan, although either of these things is possible.)

If you've watched the CBC TV show The Tudors, you've heard the work of David Fallis, artistic director of the Toronto Consort. He's the show's music consultant, and like any good historian he also understands how his subject of expertise fit into the society of the day. So, 16th century music and social conventions? David's your man.
But he's our man today, when he plays some of his favourite music on This Is My Music. With a love of music spanning 800 years or so (he's led the Toronto Consort in programs of medieval, renaissance and baroque music) there's a lot of scope for potential repertoire. His playlist ranges from Bach and Monteverdi to the early 15th century poet Oswald von Wolkenstein to Canadian blues harmonica legend Carlos del Junco.
