The Strombo Show, The Launch!
The Strombo Show launches tonight, featuring George Stroumboulopoulos, he of CBC TV talk show The Hour fame. Some excited twittering and facebooking about this, so for those who have been eagerly awaiting, here's the lowdown for the inaugural version of the show:
*An interview with Nick Hornby, who has to be credited with making music geekiness fashionable (think: High Fidelity). Apparently a huge fan of Canada' Luke Doucet too.
*George picks new music, including Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas's solo album, and spins old faves.
*Both Rich Terfry of Drive and Bob Mackowycz (new interim host of Radio 2 Morning) drop by to talk music, romance, war and peace, things like that.
And of course, lots more music. (Including a segment called Ten With Tom, a Tom Waits song at ten o'clock. That oughta happen every night of the week. At least, for those of us who are Waits fans).
The show starts at 8pm (following Randy Bachman's Vinyl Tap) and runs until midnight. (George promises to wind down the weekend with "mellow music" in the last half hour.)
Strombo Trivia Bulletin: Did you know that George began his career as a music journalist and once hosted Punkorama and Live In Toronto on the Edge radio station in Toronto? He did.
Welcome to Radio 2, Strombo!
