Next! Canada's Music Future 2010
Next! launched last year with a cross-genre look at some of the most promising young Canadian musicians. Some of these performers are featured on Canada Live, and of course In Concert showcases the classical bright lights -- for the next eight weeks.
Next! launches today with a recital with Jean-Sébastien Roy, violin, and Mathieu Gaudet, piano, both of Montreal, performing Bloch, Fauré, Franck and Saint-Saëns.
Then there's a concert with The National Youth Orchestra of Canada, in their 50th year and on tour this summer across Canada. But before they come to a concert stage near you, you can hear the orchestra under the direction of Alain Trudel, performing Haydn's Symphony No. 96 (the "Miracle"), Mahler's Symphony No. 6 and Dreams Of Flying by Rob Teehan, among other works.
Continuing the youth theme: Britain's Belcea Quartet, one of the leading quartets of the "new generation," in concert from Quebec City. (Their programme includes Haydn's Quartet In C Major Op. 20 No. 2 and Beethoven's op. 59 No. 1.)
Finally, yet another instalment of our weekly quiz. This week, Big Sixes. Identify who wrote each of the three Symphony N6's below.
Winners are entered in a draw, two prizes are awarded this week: a box set of Michel Legrand music and a box set of Mozart symphonies. Each winner will also receive a red CBC toque!! Click "enter the quiz" above to cast your entry.
So that's this week. But what's next? For that, have a look at the Next! wesbite.
