Inside the Music takes you into the musical minds that have created some of the best music of our times. From Joni Mitchell and Oscar Peterson, to Emmanuel Ax and Pinchas Zukerman, Inside the Music explores the whys and wherefores of music, through documentaries and radio series about the lives and work of great Canadian musicians.

Patti Schmidt


A self-described "omnivorous music and culture nerd," Patti is heavily involved in Canada's independent music community - from running labels to performing in bands.

Patti began her radio career with CKUT, the McGill University radio station. She joined CBC Radio 2 in 1991 as a researcher and fill-in host for Brave New Waves, and by 1995 she was host and executive producer of the show. In 2006 she also began hosting 5 à 6 on CBC Radio One.

Currently Patti can be heard as the host of Inside the Music, a program that presents the biographies of Canadian and international talents, and also explores the trends, the history and the context of music around the world. It airs Saturdays on Radio 2 and Sundays on both CBC Radio One and Radio 2.
