Katherine Duncan is in tune with classical music in popular culture, and every week she shares her creative playlist with you. It's the classical music people are talking about, listening to, buying and downloading; the classical music making news. Katherine points, clicks (and shops!) to find exciting tracks, and dig up stories that intrigue classical junkies and curious newbies alike.
A classically trained musician and former arts administrator, Katherine Duncan is a familiar voice to national CBC Radio audiences. Beginning in 1994 as host of the nightly Radio 1 classical music program, "That Time of the Night," Katherine went on to host Symphony Hall, CBC Radio 2's showcase for Canadian orchestras, for its entire ten-year run. These days, Katherine enjoys the onstage presence and huge musical variety she presents as the Calgary host for CBC Radio 2's nightly concert program, "Canada Live." Recent highlights include hosting CBC Radio 2's extensive coverage of the Banff International String Quartet Competition, which included daily live broadcasts, a Radio 2 website blog, and international coverage of the event via the European Broadcasting Union. Katherine also plays a role in discovering and broadcasting the work of Alberta's ever-growing musical community, on the program she hosts and produces, "Key of A," heard across Alberta Saturday afternoons on CBC Radio 1. Still active as a musician, Katherine performs regularly in the alto section of Calgary's Spiritus Chamber Choir.
