The St. Lawrence String Quartet is celebrating 20 years with a number of new commissions by Canadian and international composers.
John Adams was inspired to write for them after hearing them play a late Beethoven quartet at at Stanford University. The new quartet is a co-commission between the Juilliard School in NY, Standford University and the Banff Centre.
This performance at the Banff Centre is the Canadian premiere of the piece. The concert begins with Maurice Ravel's String Quartet.
