Recorded: Jun. 15, 2009
Venue: Winspear Centre for Music, Edmonton, AB
Genres: Country
This concert at Edmonton's Winspear Centre focuses on just a very few of the Classic Canadian Country songs that hit the airwaves nationally and internationally over 4 decades, plus a few 'would be' classics. Tough choices, but the set made for an entertaining evening.
The featured vocalists include former Edmontonian Redd Volkaert, who's played guitar with dozens of top country artists like Merl Haggard, Vince Gill, Lyle Lovett, and Dolly Parton; Edmonton's Stewart MacDougall, a solo recording artist, as well as piano player with Ian Tyson; Albertan Joyce Smith, who began performing in the late 1950s and worked with Patsy Cline's producer Owen Bradley; and Edmonton native Adam Gregory, who's only 23, but has already collected 4 top ten Canadian Country Singles, 2 JUNO Nominations, and 4 CCMA Awards.
