In 1986, four music students at the prestigious St. Petersburg Conservatory were suffering from an overdose of Tchaikovsky. What did the Doktor prescribe? A drop of pop, a spoon of folk, an ounce of gypsy and a dash of classical seemed just the cure. Armed with their instruments and a zany sense of humour, the four musicians drank the concoction and formed the Terem Quartet. Over twenty years later, Terem Quartet has become a Russian phenomenon - as much a symbol of St. Petersburg as the Hermitage. Canada Live caught up with them in Toronto.
