When it comes to space exploration, Canada's motto might as well be, "go small or go home." Following from our pioneering efforts in suitcase-sized micro-satellites, we're now moving to even smaller orbiting astronomical observatories. These so-called nano-satellites, the size of a toaster, will be studying some of the brightest stars in the sky. The latest one, called BRITE, was launched on Monday, and researchers hope it will tell them more about the composition and structure of these bright stars.
