Vimont riding contains that part of the city of Laval bounded by:the boundary of the Ville de Laval and the Mille Îles River, the extension of the division line of lots 46 and 47 of the territory of the parish Ste-Rose, such line, the division line of lots 1 and 2 of the territory of the Village de Ste-Rose, the CPR railway line, boulevard Ste-Rose East, Boulevard des Laurentides, Avenue des Lacasse, the right of way of the Papineau Autoroute(19), Autoroute Laval (440), the overhead electric power line, Rue Édith, Rue Edgar, Rue Foster, Rue Félix, Boulevard Dagenais Ouest and the Laurentian autoroute (15).

Riding created in 1980 from parts of ridings of Fabre and Mille-Iles.

In 1992 redistribution, lost Laval polls to Mille-Iles riding.

In 1981, PQ JEAN-GUY RODRIGUE won. Appointed Minister of Energy and Resources, Nov. 27, 1984; Minister of Education Science and Technology, Oct.- Dec. 1985.

In 1985, LIB JEAN-PAUL THEORET defeated PQ RODRIGUE by 1,409 votes. Resigned on May 23, 1989 - Defeated as candidate for Mayor of Laval in 1989.

In 1989, LIB BENOIT FRADET defeated PQ DAVID CLICHE by 583 votes.

In 1994, PQ DAVID CLICHE ran again and defeated LIB FRADET by 128 votes. Appointed Minister of Environment and Wildlife and Minister resposible for Laval region, Jan. 29, 1996; Minister of State for Tourism, Aug. 25, 1997.

In 1998, PQ CLICHE defeated LIB FRANCOIS MACEROLA by 1,853 votes. Dec. 15, 1998 - March 8, 2001 - Minister responsible for Information Highway; Government Services March 8, 2001 - Jan. 29, 2002 - Minister for Science, Research and Technology. Resigned the night before the Cabinet shuffle.

In June 17, 2002 by-el, ADQ FRANCOIS GAUDREAU defeated LIB VINCENT AUCLAIR by
5,127 votes.
