Taillon riding contains that part of the city of Longueuil bounded by: the St. Lawrence River including the île Charron and the île Verte, the boundary of the city of Longueuil with the towns of Boucherville and St-Hubert, a line in a southerly direction from the intersection of Rue Ste-Hélène with Boulevard Jacques-Cartier Ouest, such way, the Chemin de Chambly and its extension.


Redistribution:
Riding created in 1965 from parts of Verchères and Chambly ridings.
Minor change in 1992 redistribution (no electors involved).

No change in 2001 redistribution.


Political History:

  • LIB GUY LEDUC won in 1966, 1970 and 1973. Resigned from Libs on Feb. 28, 1975; sat as Independent.

  • NOW PQ RENE LEVESQUE won in 1976 and 1981. (Levesque won as LIB in Mtl-Laurier in 1960, 1962; in Laurier, 1966. Minister of Public Works & Hydraulic Resources, 1960-61; Minister of Natural Resources, 1961-66; Minister of Family & Social Welfare, 1965-66) Levesque quit Liberal Party on Oct. 14, 1967. Founder of Mouvement souveraineté-association, Nov. 19, 1967. Became PQ Leader Oct. 14, 1968. (He was defeated as PQ in Laurier in 1970 and in Dorion in 1973) Levesque was sworn in as Premier on Nov. 25, 1976. Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Jan. - Feb. 1982.  Minister responsible for Status of Women.

  • 1984-85; Levesque resigned as Leader of PQ, June 20, 1985; resigned as Premier and MNA on Oct. 3, 1985.

  • In 1985, PQ CLAUDE FILION defeated LIB GINETTE DESJARDINS-OLIVIER by 1963.

  • In 1989, PQ PAULINE MAROIS defeated LIB RODRIGUE DUBE by 6,421 votes. (Marois won in La Peltrie in 1981; defeated in 1985; defeated in 1988 by-el in Anjou in 1988.  Had served as Minister of State for Status of Women, Minister of Manpower, Income Security and VP of Treasury Board)

  • In 1998, PQ MAROIS defeated LIB NICOLE BOURGET LARAMÉE by 8,782 votes.
