It also contains that part of the Ville de Shawinigan corresponding to the following municipalities as they existed up until Dec. 31, 2001: Lac-à-la-Tortue, Saint-Gérard-des-Laurentides, Shawinigan and Shawinigan-Sud.

Redistribution:
No change in redistribution before 1994 election.

In 2001 redistribution:

kept 100% of riding and added .03% of Maskinongé;

gained, in west, from Maskinongé - the part of the Municipalité de Saint-Mathieu-du-Parc in the riding (15 electors),

gained, in north, area from Laviolette with no electors.

Political History:

In 1970, UN PHILIPPE DEMERS, who had won 1966, defeated PQ YVES DUHAIME.

In 1973, LIB MARCEL BERARD defeated PQ YVES DUHAIME. UN DEMERS was third.

In 1976, PQ YVES DUHAIME defeated LIB BERARD by 4,788 votes. Appointed Minister of Tourism, Fish and Game, Nov. 1976; appointed Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Sept. 1979.

In 1981, PQ DUHAIME defeated LIB YVON LEMIRE by 4,863 votes. Appointed Minister of Energy & Resources, Apr. 1981; appointed Minister of Finance on Nov. 27, 1984 (after Parizeau resigned)

LIB YVON LEMIRE ran again and won in 1985 and 1989.

In 1994, PQ CLAUDE PINARD defeated LIB LEMIRE by 2,137 votes.

In 1998, PQ PINARD defeated LIB SERGE AUBRY by 3,728 votes.
