Saint-Laurent riding contains that part of Montreal bounded by: the boundary of the boroughs of Montreal and Pierrefonds, the rivière des Prairies including the île aux Chats, Laurentian Autoroute (15), the boundary of the towns of Montreal and Saint-Laurent, O'Brien avenue, Côte-Vertu boulevard, Sainte-Croix avenue and the boundary of the Ville de Saint-Laurent with the towns of Mount-Royal, Montreal, Côte-Saint-Luc, Lachine, Dorval, Dollard-des-Ormeaux and Pierrefonds.

Riding created in 1965 from parts of Laval and Jacques-Cartier ridings
No change in redistribution before 1989 and 1994 elections or in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

  • LIB CLAUDE FORGET won in 1973, 1976 and 1981. Appointed Minister of Social Affairs in Nov. 1973. Forget resigned on Nov. 19, 1981 saying he thought that, technically speaking, the government was in a state of bankruptcy.

  • In Apr. 5, 1982 by-el, LIB GERMAIN LEDUC defeated PQ MICHEL BOISVERT.

  • In 1985, LIB LEDUC defeated PQ MICHEL LAROUCHE BY 16,367 votes. Leduc resigned to create a vacancy for Bourassa.

  • In Jan. 20, 1986 byelection, LIB ROBERT BOURASSA defeated ND SID INGERMAN. (PQ did not run a candidate). Bourassa, re-elected leader of Liberals on Oct. 15, 1983, was elected in byelection in Bertrand in 1985; defeated in 1985 election.

  • In 1989, LIB BOURASSA defeated EP CIRO PAUL SCOTTI by 8,392 votes.

  • In 1994, LIB NORMAND CHERRY, incumbent from Sainte-Anne, defeated PQ LOUIS
    THIBAUDEAU, by 20,109 votes.

  • In 1998, LIB JACQUES DUPUIS defeated PQ YVES BEAUREGARD by 22,551 votes.
