Pointe-aux-Trembles riding contains that part of Montreal bounded by: Henri-Bourassa Boulevard East,  Félix-Leclerc Autoroute (40), rivière des Prairies including the île Bonfoin and the île Haynes, the St. Lawrence River and the boundary of  Montreal East with the boroughs of Montreal and Anjou.

Redistribution:

Riding created before 1989 election from: 26.92% ANJOU; 12.34% BOURGET; 40.15% LAFONTAINE.

No change in redistribution before 1994 election.

In 2001 redistribution:

kept 61% of riding; 39% moved to Bourget; gained 32% of LaFontaine;

lost to Bourget, from north, area bounded by: Sherbrooke Est, border of Montreal and Montreal-East, the St.Lawrence River, Avenue Mercier, the CN railway line and Rue Saint-Émile (14,929 electors);

gained, in east, from LaFontaine: south of power line - area between Henri-Bourassa Est and the Metropolitan Autoroute; north of power line area east of Félix-Leclerc Autoroute to the St. Lawrence River including île Bonfoin and île Haynes (16,066 electors)

In Jun 20/88 by-el, LIB SERGE LAROUCHE defeated PQ PAULINE MAROIS.

LAFONTAINE

PQ MARCEL LEGER won in 1970, 1973, 1976(by 12,469), 1981(by 8534).

LIB JEAN-CLAUDE GOBE defeated PQ LEGER by 1,855 in 1985.

POINTE-AUX-TREMBLES

In 1989, PQ MICHEL BOURDON defeated LIB JEAN TONDREAU by 1,757 votes.

In 1994, PQ BOURDON defeated LIB JOSE SIMON by 6,034 votes. On June 18, 1996, Bourdon, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, announced his retirement from politics. He gave no reason.

In Dec. 9, 1996 byelection, PQ NICOLE LÉGER defeated LIB BERNARD LAUZON by 1,956. Appointed Minister for Child and Family Welfare, Sept. 23, 1998.

In 1998, PQ LÉGER defeated LIB RICHARD LA CHARITÉ by 6,836 votes. Remained as Minister for Child and Family Welfare until March 8, 2001. Appointed Minister for Elimination of Poverty and Exclusion, March 8, 2001.
