Mont-Royal riding consists of that part of Montreal bounded by: the Metropolitan Autoroute (40), boundary of the Town of Mount-Royal with the towns of Montreal and Outremont, the limit of the towns of Montreal and Outremont, Côte-Sainte-Catherine Road, Décarie Autoroute (15), the CPR railway line and the boundary of the city of Montreal with the towns of Hampstead, Côte-Saint-Luc and Saint-Laurent.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1972 redistribution from parts of D'Arcy-McGee, Outremont and Dorion.

In 1992 redistribution, kept all existing riding and gained small part from D'Arcy-McGee and part of Outremont.

No change in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

[1994 = 78.45% MONT-ROYAL; 21.55% OUTREMONT]

  • LIB JOHN CIACCIA won in 1973, 1976, 1981 and 1985. Appointed Minister of Energy and Resources, Dec. 12, 1985.

  • In 1989 LIB CIACCIA defeated EP NAT BERNSTEIN by 5,165 votes. Appointed Minister of International Affairs and Minister responsible for Native Affairs, Oct 1989; Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, Jan 11 to Sept. 1994.

  • In 1994, LIB CIACCIA defeated PQ MAGDA GREISS by 19,100 votes.

  • In 1998, LIB ANDRÉ TRANCHEMONTAGNE defeated PQ ANDRÉ NORMANDEAU by 20,498 votes.
