Montmorency riding contains the following municipalities: Boischatel, Château-Richer, L'Ange-Gardien, Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval, Sainte-Famille, Saint-François, Saint-Jean, Saint-Laurent-de-l'Île-d Orléans, Sainte-Pétronille (and Saint-Pierre-de-l'Île-d Orléans).

It also contains that part of Quebec City bounded by: the boundary of Quebec City with the municipalities of Lac-Beauport, Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval and Boischatel, the limit of Quebec City in the channel of the île d'Orléans, autoroute Félix-Leclerc (40), avenue Saint-David, its extension and the boundary of the towns of Beauport and Charlesbourg.

Redistribution:
After redistribution before 1989 election, riding composed of 91.42% of old riding.

No change in redistribution before 1994 election.

In 2001 redistribution:

  • kept 85% of riding; 15% moved to Jean-Lesage;

  • lost to Jean-Lesage, from the SW corner, that part of Beauport bounded by: Félix-Leclerc autoroute, the St. Lawrence River, de l Académie street, Royale avenue and  Seigneuriale (8,554 electors)

    Political History

  • In 1973, LIB MARCEL BEDARD defeated PQ CLEMENT RICHARD by 5,973 votes.

  • PQ CLEMENT RICHARD defeated LIB BEDARD in 1976 and was re-elected in 1981. Richard was Speaker, Dec 1976-1980; Minister of Communications, 1980-81. Appointed Minister of Cultural Affairs, April 1981 to Oct 1985.

  • LIB YVES SEGUIN won in 1985 and 1989; Appointed of Revenue in 1987; added Minister of Labour in 1988. Seguin resigned from Cabinet, Sept 13, 1990 and as MNA, Dec. 21, 1990. After resignation of Seguin, a byelection was held on Aug. 12, 1991 and PQ JEAN FILION defeated LIB CLAUDE DESJARDINS by 5,439 votes.

  • In 1994, PQ FILION defeated LIB FRANCE LEFRANCOIS BOUCHARD by 13,068 votes. Filion abstained from voting on PQ budget on May 23, 1995; on May 25, 1995 Parizeau's office said he was removed from 2 committees and if he missed more than 2 caucus meetings, he will be out of caucus for session.

  • On June 12, 1995, Filion announced he would sit as Independent Sovereignist. He said punishment imposed by Parizeau was "immoderate".

  • In 1998, PQ FRANÇOIS SIMARD defeated LIB JACQUES LANGLOIS by 5,128 votes.
    Appointed Minister for the Environment and Water, Jan. 30, 2002.
