In 1973, LIB JULIEN GIASSON, incumbent from L'Islet, defeated UN JEAN-PAUL CLOUTIER, who had won in Montmagny in 1962, 1966 and 1970. Giasson appointed Minister of State, Social Affairs, July 1975.

In 1976, LIB GIASSON defeated UN ANDRE ROUSSEAU by 2,370 votes.

In 1981, PQ JACQUES LEBLANC defeated LIB GIASSON by 231 votes.

In 1985, LIB RÉAL GAUVIN defeated PQ LEBLANC by 6,349 votes.

In 1989, LIB GAUVIN defeated PQ DANIEL BLANCHET by 4,814 votes.

In 1994, LIB GAUVIN again defeated PQ BLANCHET, this time by 855 votes.
