Political History:
ARGENTEUIL:
LIB ZOEL SAINDON elected in 1966, 1970, 1973 and 1976. Saindon resigned to create a vacancy for Claude Ryan who had been elected leader of Quebec Liberals on April 15, 1978.
LIB CLAUDE RYAN won Apr. 30, 1979, in 1981, 1985 and 1989. Ryan resigned as Liberal Leader on Aug. 10, 1982. Served as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Science; Minister responsible for Administration of French Language Charter; Minister of Municipal Affairs and was Minister of Public Security, Oct. 1989 to 1994.
In 1994, LIB REGENT BEAUDET defeated PQ ANDRE RIENDEAU by 1,802 votes. In June 1, 1998 byelection -- held after Beaudet resigned in Dec. 1997.
LIB DAVID WHISSELL defeated PQ DENISE BEAUDOIN by 4,661 votes.
In 1998, LIB WHISSELL defeated PQ DENISE BEAUDOIN by 148 votes.
