Mégantic-Compton riding contains the following municipalities: Ascot Corner, Audet, Bury, Chartierville, Cookshire, Dixville, Dudswell, East Angus, East Hereford, Eaton, Frontenac, Hampden, Lac-Drolet, Lac-Mégantic, Lambton, La Patrie, Lingwick,  Marston, Martinville, Milan, Nantes, Newport, Notre-Dame-des-Bois, Piopolis,Saint-Augustin-de-Woburn, Sainte-Cécile-de-Whitton, Sainte-Edwidge-de-Clifton, Saint-Herménégilde, Saint-Isidore-de-Clifton, Saint-Malo, Saint-Romain, Saint-Sébastien, Saint-Venant-de-Paquette, Scotstown, Stornoway, Stratford, Val-Racine, Weedon and Westbury.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1972 from Mégantic, Compton and parts of Wolfe and Stanstead.

In 1992 redistribution:

  • kept all existing riding and gained Ascot Corner polls from Saint-François riding.

    In 2001 redistribution:

  • kept 99% of riding; 1% moved to Saint-François;

  • gained 1% of Saint-François;

  • lost, to Saint-François, from SW corner, that part of Coaticook and the part of Saint-Camille in the riding (441 electors);

  • gained from Saint-François, in SW corner, the part of the municipality of Eaton in the riding (565 electors).

  • In 1973, LIB J-OMER DIONNE, elected in Compton in 1970, won here.

  • In 1976, UN FERNAND GRENIER defeated LIB DIONNE by 2,502 votes. Grenier resigned on Jan 7/80 - was federal PC candidate in 1980.

  • In byelection on Nov. 17, 1980, LIB FABIEN BELANGER defeated PQ RICHARD LABELLE.

  • In 1981, LIB BELANGER defeated PQ NOEL LANDRY by 2,327 votes.

  • After death of Fabien Belanger on Oct. 2, 1983, a byelection was held in 1983.In the Dec. 5, 1983 byelection, LIB MADELEINE BELANGER (wife of Fabien) defeated PQ NOEL LANDRY, who ran again, by 7,529 votes.

  • LIB MADELEINE BÉLANGER was re-elected in 1985, 1989 and 1994.

  • In 1998, LIB BÉLANGER defeated PQ SUZANNE DURIVAGE by 2,336 votes. Bélanger announced Feb. 19, 2003 she would not be running again.
