West Montreal riding - mostly blue collar.

Anglo: 28.7%
Franco: 57.7%
Allo: 13.6% (2.5% Italian)

Marquette contains that part of Montréal corresponding to the following municipalities as they existed up until December 31, 2001: Dorval, Lachine and L'Île-Dorval.

It also contains that part of Montréal bounded by: the boundary of the towns of LaSalle and Lachine, the extension of avenue Dollard, such way, boulevard Newman, the CPR railway line and the St. Lawrence River.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1980 from parts of Marguerite-Bourgeoys, Jacques-Cartier and Notre-Dame-de-Grâce ridings.

After 1988 redistribution, riding contained 76.66% MARQUETTE and 24% JACQUES-CARTIER.
No change in redistribution before 1994 election.

In 2001 redistribution:

  • kept 91% of riding; 9% moved to Marguerite-Bourgeoys;

  • gained 28% of Jacques-Cartier;

  • lost to Marguerite-Bourgeoys, from the east, that part of LaSalle bounded by: the CPR railway line, Newman boulevard, the 90th avenue and the St. Lawrence River (3,434 electors)

  • gained, in west, from Jacques-Cartier - Dorval and I'île-Dorval (13,849 electors)

    Political History:

  • LIB CLAUDE DAUPHIN won in 1981, 1985 and 1989: Dauphin resigned on Jan 10, 1994. Later named Quebec's representative in Boston.

  • Byelection was called for Aug. 29 - cancelled when election was called.

  • In 1994, LIB FRANCOIS OUIMET defeated PQ ROBERT FARINEAU by 5,728 votes.

  • In 1998, LIB OUIMET defeated PQ YANNICK PROULX by 6,845 votes.
