Marie-Victorin riding contains that part of the city of Longueuil bounded by: the St. Lawrence River, the extension of the chemin de Chambly, Jacques-Cartier boulevard West up to its intersection with Sainte-Hélène street, from that intersection a line in a southerly direction until the boundary of the towns of Longueuil and Saint-Hubert, such limit and the limit of the city of Longueuil with the towns of LeMoyne and Saint-Lambert.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1980 from parts of Taillon and Laporte.

In 1992 redistribution, kept all existing riding and gained small area from Taillon and Longueuil polls from Laporte.

No change in 2001 redistribution.

  • In 1981, PQ PIERRE MAROIS, who had won in Laporte in 1976, won here. (Marois defeated: Chambly, 1970; Chambly byelection, 1971; Laporte, 1973) Had been appointed Minister of State for Social Development, Nov. 26, 1976; Minister of Labour and Manpower on Nov. 6, 1980. Appointed Minister of Labour, Manpower and Income Security, Apr. 30, 1981; Minister of Manpower and Income Security, Sept. 9, 1982 to Nov. 24, 1983; Resigned as Minister and MNA on November 24, 1983.

  • In June 18/84 byelection LIB GUY PRATT defeated PQ PIERRE NANTEL by 3,891.

  • In 1985, PQ CÉCILE VERMETTE defeated LIB PRATT by 335 votes.

  • In 1989, PQ VERMETTE defeated LIB MICHEL TIMPERIO by 3,546 votes.

  • In 1994, PQ VERMETTE defeated LIB SERGE PRIVE by 7,390 votes.

  • In 1998, PQ VERMETTE defeated LIB GILBERT COTE by 5,816 votes.
