Laporte contains that part of the city of Longueuil corresponding to: the towns of Greenfield Park, LeMoyne and Saint-Lambert, and to part of the city of Saint-Hubert bounded by: the boundary of the towns of Saint-Hubert and Longueuil, the CNR railway line along Maricourt boulevard and the boundary of the city of Saint-Hubert with the towns of Greenfield Park and LeMoyne.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1972 from parts of Taillon and Chambly ridings.

No change in redistribution before 1989 election.

In 1992 redistribution, kept major part of the riding. Lost 7,233 electors to Marie-Victorin and gained 12,057 from Vanier.

In 2001 redistribution, gained small area (part of Saint-Lambert) from La Pinière (no electors involved).

  • In 1973, LIB ANDRE DEOM defeated PQ PIERRE MAROIS by 372 votes.

  • In 1976, PQ PIERRE MAROIS defeated LIB JEAN-JACQUES LEMIEUX by 11,086. Appointed Minister of State/Social Dev, Nov. 26, 1976; Minister of Labour, Nov. 6, 1980. Marois ran in Marie-Victorin in 1981.

  • LIB ANDRÉ BOURBEAU won in 1981, 1985 and 1989. Appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister responsible for Housing, Dec 1985; Minister of Manpower and Income Security, Jan 1989; Minister of Manpower, Income Security and Skills Development, Oct. 1989; Minister of Finance, Jan. to Sept. 1994.

  • In 1994, LIB BOURBEAU defeated PQ ANNICK BELANGER by 7,094 votes.

  • In 1998, LIB BOURBEAU defeated PQ JOCELYNE PELLERIN by 6,360 votes.
