Political History:

In 1973, LIB JEAN-MARIE PELLETIER, who had been elected in Kamouraska in 1970, ran in this new riding and defeated PC NORMAND DUMONT by 5,266.

In 1976, PQ LEONARD LEVESQUE defeated LIB PELLETIER by 310 votes.

In 1981, PQ LEVESQUE defeated LIB REGINALD GRAND'MAISON by 4,189 votes.

In 1985, LIB FRANCE DIONNE defeated PQ LEVESQUE by 5,190 votes.

In 1989, LIB DIONNE defeated PQ CLAUDETTE DORVAL by 4,121 votes.

In 1994, LIB DIONNE defeated PQ HELENE ALARIE by 386 votes. Dionne resigned to run federally.

In Oct. 6, 1997 byelection, LIB CLAUDE BÉCHARD defeated PQ DENIS SIMARD by 2,745 votes.
