Jean-Talon contains that part of Quebec City bounded by: St-Sacrement Ave., Coteau Ste-Geneviève, the east limit of the land of the çcole St-Joseph-de-St-Vallier, Chemin Ste-Foy, Avenue des Érables, Grande Allée Ouest, Grande Allée Est, the fortification wall, the cliff, the boundary of the towns of Sillery and Quebec City, the St. Lawrence River, Pierre-Laporte Bridge, Henri-IV Autoroute (73), Chemin des Quatre-Bourgeois, Autoroute du Vallon (740), boundary of the towns of Ste-Foy and Quebec City and Autoroute Charest (440).

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1965 from Québec Centre and parts of Québec-Est and Québec-Ouest ridings.

No change in redistribution before 1989 election.

  • In 1992 redistribution, 4,654 electors moved to Taschereau riding.

    In 2001 redistribution:

  • kept 100% of riding; added 22% of Louis-Hébert;

  • lost to Jean-Talon - that part of Sillery included in the riding and part of Ste-Foy bounded by: border of city of Ste-Foy with Québec and Sillery, Laurier Boulevard, Autoroute Henri-IV, Chemin des Quatre-Bourgeois and Autoroute du Vallon (7,283 electors).

  • LIB RAYMOND GARNEAU won in 1970, 1973 and 1976. Appointed Minister of Civil Service and Assistant to the Minister of Finance, May 1970; Minister of Finance, Oct. 1, 1970 - 1976; President of Treasury Board, 1971 to 1976. Minister of Education, Sept. 1975 to Jan 1976. Defeated for LIB leadership April 15, 1978. Resigned his seat Dec. 20, 1978.

  • In April 30, 1979/79 byelection, LIB JEAN-CLAUDE RIVEST defeated PQ LOUISE BEAUDOIN.

  • In 1981, LIB JEAN-CLAUDE RIVEST defeated PQ MONIQUE CLOUTIER by 2,246.

  • LIB GIL RçMILLARD won in 1985 and 1989.
