Political History:
In 1976, PQ DENISE LEBLANC-BANTEY defeated LIB LACROIX by 60 votes. In 1981, PQ LEBLANC-BANTEY defeated LIB ROSAIRE ARSENEAU by 2,427 votes. Appointed Minister of Civil Service, April 1981; Minister responsible for Status of Women and VP of Treasury Board, Nov. 1983. One of "Group of 12", left cabinet Nov. 26, 1984 along with several others after Lévesque's statement that sovereignty should not be an issue in 1985 election. From Nov. 27, 1984 - sat as an Independent.
LIB GEORGES FARRAH won in 1985 and 1989.Farrah appointed Junior Minister for Industry, Trade, Science and Technology and responsible for Tourism, Jan. 11 to Sept. 1994.
In 1994, LIB FARRAH defeated PQ LEONCE DERASPE by 1,816 votes.
