It also contains the First Nation reserves of Lac-John, La Romaine, Maliotenam, Matimekosh, Mingan, Natashquan and Uashat; the First Nation settlement of Pakuashipi; the reserved lands of Kawawachikamach.

Redistribution:
Riding created before 1960 election from part of Saguenay riding. Minor change in redistribution before 1994 election.

No change in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

LIB HENRI-L COITEUX won here in 1960, 1962, 1966, 1970.

After death of Coiteux, a byelection was held on Oct. 11, 1972, and LIB DONALD GALLIENNE defeated PQ CHARLES BEGIN by 6,750 votes. In 1973, LIB GALLIENNE defeated PQ CLEMENT GODBOUT by 2,481 votes.

PQ DENIS PERRON won in 1976, 1981, 1985 and 1989. In 1994, PQ PERRON defeated LIB TONY DETROIO by 5,263 votes.

In Oct. 6, 1997 byelection , PQ NORMAND DUGUAY defeated LIB DANIEL MONTAMBAULT by 1,866 votes.

In 1998, PQ DUGUAY defeated LIB RICHARD SCANLAN by 7,011 votes.
