Chapleau contains that part of the Ville de Gatineau bounded by: the autoroute de l'Outaouais (50), the rivière Blanche, CPR railway line, boulevard Lorrain, boulevard Maloney Est, chemin du Lac and its extension so as to include 754 rue Notre-Dame and 782 boulevard Hurtubise, Outaouais and the Gatineau rivers.

Redistribution:
Riding created from 36,252 electors from Papineau riding.
In 1992 redistribution, kept almost all existing riding -- lost Cantley poll to Gatineau riding. Gained small area from Gatineau.

In 2001 redistribution:

kept 84% of riding; 13% moved to Papineau riding; 3% to Gatineau;

lost to Papineau, area from the east of Ville de Gatineau (8,077 electors)

lost to Gatineau, area north of autoroute de l'Outaouais(2,025 electors)

PQ JEAN ALFRED, who had won in Papineau in 1976 by 67 votes, ran in this new riding in 1981 and was defeated.

LIB JOHN KEHOE won in 1981, 1985 and 1989.

In 1994, LIB CLAIRE VAIVE defeated PQ JOCELYNE GADBOIS by 12,618 votes.

In 1998, LIB BENOIT PELLETIER defeated PQ CLAUDE HALLÉ by 11,688 votes.
