It also contains that part of Longueuil corresponding to Ville de Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville as it existed until December 31, 2001.

Redistribution:
In 1980 redistribution, lost 26,233 electors to Bertrand.

No change in redistribution before 1994 election or in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

  • LIB PIERRE LAPORTE won Dec. 14, 1961 by-el; re-elected in 1962, 1966, 1970  Appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs in Dec. 1962; Minister of Cultural Affairs in Sept. 1964 and Government Leader 1965-66. Leader of Opposition after 1966 election. Appointed Minister of Labour, Immigration and Manpower, May 12, 1970; Government House Leader. Abducted by FLQ Oct. 9, 1970. His body was found on Oct. 17, 1970.

  • In byelection on Feb 8, 1971, LIB JEAN COURNOYER defeated PQ MAROIS by 11,195 votes.

  • In 1976, PQ DENIS LAZURE defeated LIB ST-PIERRE by 5,201 votes. Appointed Minister of Social Affairs on Nov. 26, 1976 (ran in Bertrand in 1981).

  • In 1981, PQ LUC TREMBLAY defeated LIB MARCELLIN TREMBLAY by 1,645 votes.

  • In 1985, LIB GERARD LATULIPPE defeated PQ TREMBLAY by 4,005 votes. Appointed Solicitor-General, Dec. 12, 1985. Resigned from Cabinet June 30, 1987. Resigned June 14, 1989; named Quebec Consul-General in Mexico on June 15, 1989.

  • In 1989, LIB LUCIENNE ROBILLARD defeated PQ MONIQUE RICHER by 2,496 votes.
