LIB PIERRE LAPORTE won Dec. 14, 1961 by-el; re-elected in 1962, 1966, 1970 Appointed Minister of Municipal Affairs in Dec. 1962; Minister of Cultural Affairs in Sept. 1964 and Government Leader 1965-66. Leader of Opposition after 1966 election. Appointed Minister of Labour, Immigration and Manpower, May 12, 1970; Government House Leader. Abducted by FLQ Oct. 9, 1970. His body was found on Oct. 17, 1970.
In byelection on Feb 8, 1971, LIB JEAN COURNOYER defeated PQ MAROIS by 11,195 votes.
In 1976, PQ DENIS LAZURE defeated LIB ST-PIERRE by 5,201 votes. Appointed Minister of Social Affairs on Nov. 26, 1976 (ran in Bertrand in 1981).
