Riding created from parts of Beauce, Dorchester, Frontenac and Mégantic ridings.

In redistribution before 1989 election, lost small part of riding to Beauce-Nord. No change in redistribution before 1994 election or in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

In 1973, PC FABIEN ROY defeated LIB PAUL-H. LACASSE by 895 votes. Leader of Parti Creditiste in 1973 and 1974. Expelled from Party Nov. 3, 1975 - Founded Parti National Populaire, with Jerome Choquette.

In 1976, PNP FABIEN ROY defeated LIB GUY LEBEL by 11,573 votes. ROY resigned seat on April 5, 1979. LIB HERMANN MATHIEU was elected in by-election held on Nov. 14, 1979.

In 1981, LIB MATHIEU defeated PQ BERNARD MATHIEU by 97 votes. LIB ROBERT DUTIL won in 1985 and 1989. Served as Minister responsible for Fisheries; Minister responsible for Health and Social Services; Minister responsible for Family, Health and Social Services; Minister of Communications and Minister of Supply and Services.

In 1994, LIB PAUL-EUGENE QUIRION defeated PQ PAUL-ANDRE BUSQUE by 164 votes. After death of QUIRION, a by-election was called for April 28, 1997.

In April 28, 1997 by-election, LIB DIANE LEBLANC defeated PQ RICHARD BUSQUE by 5,156 votes.

In 1998, LIB LEBLANC defeated PQ NORBERT RODRIGUE by 3,877 votes.
