Beauce-Sud contains the following municipalities: Courcelles, Lac-Poulin, La Guadeloupe, Notre-Dame-des-Pins, Ste-Aurélie, St-Benjamin, St-Benoît-Labre, Ste-Clotilde-de-Beauce, St-Côme Linière, St-Éphrem-de-Beauce, St-Évariste-de-Forsyth, St-Gédéon, St-Gédéon-de-Beauce, St-Georges, St-Hilaire-de-Dorset, St-Honoré-de-Shenley, St-Ludger, St-Martin, St-Philibert, St-Prosper, St-René, St-Robert-Bellarmin, St-Simon-les-Mines, St-Théophile and St-Zacharie.

Redistribution:

Riding created from parts of Beauce, Dorchester, Frontenac and Mégantic ridings.

In redistribution before 1989 election, lost small part of riding to Beauce-Nord. No change in redistribution before 1994 election or in 2001 redistribution.

Political History:

  • In 1973, PC FABIEN ROY defeated LIB PAUL-H. LACASSE by 895 votes. Leader of Parti Creditiste in 1973 and 1974. Expelled from Party  Nov. 3, 1975 - Founded Parti National Populaire, with Jerome Choquette.

  • In 1976, PNP FABIEN ROY defeated LIB GUY LEBEL by 11,573 votes. ROY resigned seat on April 5, 1979. LIB HERMANN MATHIEU was elected in by-election held on Nov. 14, 1979.

  • In 1981, LIB MATHIEU defeated PQ BERNARD MATHIEU by 97 votes. LIB ROBERT DUTIL won in 1985 and 1989. Served as Minister responsible for Fisheries; Minister responsible for Health and Social Services; Minister responsible for Family, Health and Social Services; Minister of Communications and Minister of Supply and Services.

  • In 1994, LIB PAUL-EUGENE QUIRION defeated PQ PAUL-ANDRE BUSQUE by 164 votes. After death of QUIRION, a by-election was called for April 28, 1997.

  • In April 28, 1997 by-election, LIB DIANE LEBLANC defeated PQ RICHARD BUSQUE by 5,156 votes.

  • In 1998, LIB LEBLANC defeated PQ NORBERT RODRIGUE by 3,877 votes.
