Anjou contains that part of Montreal bounded by: the boundary of  Anjou with the boroughs of Montreal-Nord, Montreal, Montreal-Est and Montreal, the Trans-Canada Highway,  Sherbrooke East, Dickson, Lacordaire and the boundary of St-Léonard with Montreal and Anjou.

Redistribution:
Riding created in 1972 redistribution.

In 2001 redistribution:

  • kept 84 per cent of riding; 16 per cent to Bourget; added 22 per cent of Bourget and 22 per cent of Viger

  • lost to Bourget—from NW corner of riding, area area bounded by border of Montreal with Anjou and Montreal-East, Sherbrooke Street East and Saint-Donat (5480 electors);

  • gained, in SE—from NW of Bourget, area bounded by Rosemont Boulevard, border between Montreal and Anjou, Trans-Canada Highway, Sherbrooke Street East, Dickson Street and Lacordaire Street (7,663 electors);

  • gained, in SE—from North of Viger (which was eliminated), area bounded by, border of the borough of  Montreal with St-Léonard and Anjou, Rosemount, and Lacordaire (8,054 electors);

  • gained in SW, area from La Fontaine (no electors).

  • In 1973, LIB YVES TARDIF def PQ GILLES PROULX by 828 votes.

  • In 1976, PQ PIERRE MARC JOHNSON defeated LIB TARDIF by 8,324 votes. Minister of Labour and Manpower, 1977-80; Minister of Consumers, Cooperatives and Financial Institutions, November 1980 to Apr. 30, 1981.  In 1981, PQ JOHNSON defeated LIB PIERRE BRIEN by 5,420 votes.  Appointed Minister of Social Affairs, 1981; Minister of Justice and Intergovernmental  Affairs, March 1984.  Johnson elected PQ leader on Sept. 29, 1985. Premier Oct. 3 - Dec. 12, 1985.

  • In 1985, PQ JOHNSON defeated LIB DENIS RICARD by 354 votes.  Johnson resigned as PQ leader on Nov. 10, 1987.

  • In June 20, 1988 byelection, LIB RENE SERGE LAROUCHE defeated PQ PAULINE MAROIS. (Marois had been elected in La Peltrie in 1981, defeated there in 1986)

  • In 1989, LIB LAROUCHE defeated PQ LOUISE LAURIN by 2,109 votes.  Larouche resigned from Lib caucus on Aug. 29, 1990 - Sat as an  Independent until he resigned his seat on June 19, 1991.  PQ PIERRE BELANGER won by-election held on Jan 20, 1992.

  • In 1994, PQ BELANGER defeated LIB RICHARD QUIRION by 756 votes.  Appointed Minister responsible for Electoral and Parliamentary Reform and Government House Leader, Jan. 29, 1996; Minister of Public Security, Aug. 25, 1997.

  • In 1998, LIB JEAN-SÉBASTIEN LAMOUREUX defeated PQ BELANGER by 143 votes.  He resigned Sept. 25, 2001 after a campaign organizer was convicted of getting supporters to vote more than once in 1998 election.

  • In April 15, 2002 by-election, LIB LISE THÉRIAULT defeated PQ AUDE VÉZINA by 4,570.
