Green brothers from Lower North Shore deliver boat to Nunavut

How do you get a small green fishing boat from a small town on the Lower North Shore, to the arctic shores of the Hudson Bay? No, it's not a riddle - it's the real-life summer adventure of three brothers from the Lower North Shore region of Quebec.

After twenty days and nearly 3,000 km, the men safely delivered the boat to its new owner in Whale Cove, Nunavut. Grant Green spoke to us from his home in Chevery.

Lower North Shore in need of a more reliable Route Blanche

Dec.2012 trees 008 snowmobile reduced.jpgCommunities along the Lower North Shore are hoping to build a new route for all-terrain-vehicules. It would connect Kegaska to Blanc Sablon, all-year long. Winter travel has become particularly difficult in this part of the province.

The Route Blanche, which is open only in the winter, usually links Natashquan to Blanc Sablon. But, in recent years it has become less accessible. Warmer temperatures have forced extended closures of the route.

The Lower North Shore's Local Development Centre has ordered a feasability study for this project. We spoke to Development Agent, Patrick Burke.
