Potential impact of changes to Employment Insurance on regional workers

Last week the federal government announced changes to the rules of the Employment Insurance programme. We called up people involved in employment in with two different areas of the province. Art can often evoke all sorts of magic and wonder, and it did just that at the Musée National des Beaux Arts in Quebec City yesterday. Julia Caron was there as three works that are part of the upcoming exhibit "In Wonderland: The Surrealist Activities of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States" were unveiled.

The exhibition will be at the Musee National des Beaux Arts Du Quebec beginning June 7th.

Gaspé historian on possible move of Forillon artifacts

40 years later, the Forillon Expropriation is still a hard pill to swallow for many families in the Gaspé. Now, federal budget cuts include moving thousands of artifacts left over from the expropriation from Quebec City to Ottawa.

Student protests in Montreal numbering in the thousands, often ending in violence, have been receiving the bulk of the attention these days.

But protesters have also taken to the streets each night in Quebec City for almost three weeks. No one had been arrested - until Sunday night. 28 people were ticketed and 1 person arrested.

The legislation currently being debated by MNA's contains measures designed to impede student associations from proceeding with measures that would disrupt the normal routine of teaching on campuses in the province. But there also provisions that target professional unions who are found to be participating in or condoning those activities, which would include professors.

Students, parents of students react to confrontation at College Lionel-Groulx

Tuesday morning, students and some of their parents blockaded the doors to College Lionel-Groulx in Ste-Therese, QC. The college administrators had planned to reopen for a handful of students who wanted to attend classes.

One of the people protesting this decision was Carol Gelinas, a member of the group Meres en colere et solidaire.

In early April, Laurent Proulx was the first student to be granted an injunction by the courts in the student strike. He is the spokesperson for the Mouvement des étudiants socialement responsable.
